I Am Happiest When [No.46]

I am looking toward happy

It’s an amazing thing about perspective.  The direction in which you look makes all the difference to what you see.  As blindingly obvious as this is when you see it written down, it can be excruciatingly difficult to put into practice, if it’s greater happiness you wish to experience.

Depending on which way you are looking, you could be seeing

  • the ocean, with turquoise waves crashing onto a sandy white beach, looking off into an infinity horizon.
  • the carpark.
  • the bluff, with craggy rocks forming a formidable barrier.
  • the city skyline, with high rises peeking through the haze.

And all those different views can be taken in without moving your feet beyond one square foot.  You just have to turn 90 degrees one way or the other, and what you see changes dramatically.

When it comes happiness, so much of what we experience has to do with the perspective in front of us which is based on the direction we are facing.  And it is almost always within our power to change our direction, even if just a little bit.  Sometimes just the smallest change in direction can lead to the largest changes in perspective and outlook.

I know what I want to be looking toward.  And it ain’t the carpark.

What direction you face determines your view
